Architect in Los Altos Hills, CA

Los Altos Hills is a town of hillsides, oaks and open space. Most homes sit on large, sloping lots, many with breathtaking views across the valley and the bay, and the town works hard to keep its quiet, rural character. It is also where we have designed more homes than anywhere else.

Our design approach in Los Altos Hills

A hillside lot shapes everything, from where the house sits to how it meets the ground. We work with the hill rather than against it: stepping homes down their slopes in terraces, tucking lower levels into the hill, and orienting living rooms, bedrooms and outdoor spaces toward the best views. Just as important, we respect the views of the neighbors and of the hills themselves, keeping rooflines low, siting houses carefully and using natural materials so a home settles into its landscape instead of standing out from it.

Local insight

Our founder and principal, Malika Junaid, lives in Los Altos Hills and serves on the Town's Planning Commission. She knows the town, its neighborhoods and its planning goals first-hand. In Los Altos Hills, how much you can build depends on the size and slope of your lot, and every project is reviewed with the town's open character in mind; we plan each design around those rules from day one.

Our work in Los Altos Hills

  • new custom homes in many styles, from a sustainable modern estate and a glass-walled home whose 23-by-36-foot window wall opens like a hangar door, to Tuscan, Spanish Mediterranean and Japanese-inspired homes;
  • hillside remodels, including a sculptural modern home with curving walls that follow the slope and a modern remodel wrapped around an old oak, with a roof terrace above the treetops;
  • whole-house renovations with infinity-edge pools, terraced lawns and outdoor kitchens;
  • ADUs, from a Mediterranean cottage matched to its main house to a modern guest house among tall redwoods;
  • several new hillside homes now in design, with green roofs, stacked terraces and glass pavilions that step down their lots.
