Architect in Los Altos, CA

Los Altos is a village-like town of tree-lined streets, family neighborhoods and a walkable downtown, right next door to Mountain View. Many of its homes are ranch and mid-century houses on generous lots, and the town values its small-town, residential character.

Our design approach in Los Altos

Many Los Altos homes were built for another era, so much of our work here is about giving a good house a new life: opening up the plan, bringing in daylight with skylights, clerestories and walls of glass, and connecting the rooms to the garden, the pool and outdoor living. When a family needs more space, we design new homes, second stories and ADUs that fit the scale of the street and respect the privacy of the neighbors.

Local insight

Los Altos is just a few minutes from our Mountain View studio, and it is one of the towns where we have done the most work, from new homes and remodels to ADUs and a mixed-use building. Our firm was named Best of Los Altos every year from 2011 to 2015. In Los Altos, most new homes and second-story additions go through the City's design review, and we design with its guidelines in mind from the start.

Our work in Los Altos

  • new custom homes, including a sculptural modern home with an indoor lap pool in the living room, a Mediterranean home built around a glass-roofed courtyard and a Spanish-style home with a double-height kitchen;
  • remodels of ranch, mid-century, Craftsman and contemporary homes, with open kitchens, skylit great rooms and walls of glass to the garden;
  • ADUs, including a historic water tower converted into a guest house and two backyard pool-house cottages;
  • a mixed-use building proposed for Loyola Corners;
  • projects now in design, from a modern pool pavilion to new homes with terraced gardens and an infinity-edge pool.
